More than 100000 small businesses are expected to take advantage of a tax amnesty even though they will have to pay 10% of their 2004-05 taxable income as a penalty for not having paid tax previously.

The amnesty, announced by Finance Minister Trevor Manuel earlier this year, takes effect from August 1, and will last until May 31 next year. It is aimed at broadening the tax net, and will apply to all “improperly declared, undeclared or unpaidâ€
