Post TITLEIST CB 712 IRONS VS CB 710 irons
Titleist CB 710 irons

Titleist have always positioned themselves as the players brand – serious clubs for serious golfers as they like to say. Regular tour wins from the likes of Steve Stricker, Geoff Ogilvy and Robert Karlsson cement this view and any new club needs to be good enough to be seen in their bags. The Titleist CB 710 irons are their new cavity back irons for better players.

Compared to the previous version the Titleist CB 710 have a nicer satin finish that looks a little more contemporary than the previous polished chrome look. The tweaks to the sole design and the heel and trailing edge reliefs do make this a lovely iron to hit, especially from tight lies. It also enables a little more mass to go into the muscle back behind the face for a more solid feel.

TITLEIST CB 712 IRONS

The Titleist CB 712 Irons replace the 710 model of the same name and given that it is was so successful, there are not any major changes. The biggest visual change is the chrome satin finish which we think looks great. The sole is a little wider and the trailing edge on the back of the head has a little camber on it, both of which make it a little more playable.

A new satin-chrome finish reduces glare and accentuates the toe and top-line profile for easier alignment. The shallow cavity, muscle design on the Titleist CB 712 has been optimised behind the impact area to improve feel and a rounder profile, and soft top-line provide a classic but improved contemporary look. The improved weighting also produces consistent launch angles, backspin and ball speed in order to provide precise distance and shot control demanded by better players. The CB 712 Irons set also provides increased inertia, forgiveness and a slightly higher ball flight compared with the 712 MBs.

They are not as "buttery soft" as some irons but they strike a nice balance between solid and smooth with a pleasant sound at impact. There is no jarring feel on impact towards the heel and toe with the latter providing the most negative vibration – if you can even call it that. They were softer in feel than the 2010 AP2 iron that I tested them against with a more muted sound than that game improvement iron provided. Striking balls out of fairway, rough, and even divots was not really an issue in dry conditions but I had some concerns about how the narrow sole might perform in wet conditions.
