Charley Hull on Tuesday spoke for the first time about her decision to accept an invitation to play Titleist Scotty Cameron Buttonback Putter in the first women's major of the year - the Kraft Nabisco Championship - and the consequences that resulted from it. In opting to play in the USA, the Woburn amateur and who will celebrate her 16th birthday on Tuesday, went against the wishes of the Ladies Golf Union. in this year's Curtis Cup trials over the same weekend and because the English No 1 women's amateur preferred to play in the Kraft Nabisco, they slapped a controversial ban on her which will prevent her from representing Great Britain and Ireland against the USA in the next Curtis Cup . Scotland's Catriona Matthew, one the UK's finest women professionals, called the ban "short sighted" and believes Hull should be allowed to play in the biennial GB&I-USA clash, even if she does miss the trials to accept a once in a lifetime offer to join the games finest professional's in the female equivalent of the Masters. Hull, rated World No.7 and England No 1 in the amateur rankings, told the Northamptonshire Golf Magazine that she has moved on from the dispute and is looking forward to playing in the professional event at Mission Hills Country Club in California. |
