Editor's View from smallbusiness.co.uk As a small business owner, you probably find yourself constantly beset by people giving you advice on how to run your enterprise. Lawyers, bank managers, consultants, perhaps even friends and family members will all have pearls of wisdom to share with you on the best way to grow your business. But some of the most valuable input you’ll ever receive is likely to come from a fellow entrepreneur. Someone who’s building a business, or has already done so successfully, will have the most pertinent words of wisdom. So, when was the last time you picked the brains of a like-minded business owner? Few people make the time for what seems like a rather risky, superfluous or even self-indulgent activity. To some, networking is a dirty word and they don’t have time for it. Yet, other business leaders and trusted confidants can often spark ideas and reveal expansion avenues you would have never considered otherwise. For that reason, many small business owners bring on board a non-executive director to act as an independent trusted advisor and mentor. Running your own business can be an isolating and weary experience, so having a wise entrepreneur to turn to for advice is invaluable, both for improving your business strategy and reigniting your entrepreneurial enthusiasm. Don't knock it till you’ve tried it.
