The TaylorMade R9 irons look great and are ideal for golfers
The
Taylormade R9 Forged Irons look great and are ideal for golfers in the 5 to 15 handicap range. The oversize heads sit well behind the ball without the top line looking too chunky so you get lots of forgiveness. However they also give very good feel for this class of iron and still have a 'players' feel about them. Compared to the TP version, the standard TaylorMade R9 irons have a little more offset and a slightly wider sole, although the grind on the back of the sole that goes around the head makes them look smaller than they are. The grind also helps the ball through impact and the R9s were very impressive from lush and bare lies with the right amount of bounce. As you would expect the trajectory was a little higher than the TP irons thanks to the weight in the sole being a little further back and we should commend TaylorMade on hiding this from you at address. We are not over enthusiatic about the KBS shaft so try before you buy, but with TaylorMade's excellent custom fitting service you should be able to get the right shaft for your R9 irons.
The TaylorMade R9 Iron Set has distance and control-enhancing technologies in a classic shape. The Velocity-Control Chamber in the 3-6 irons offers increased consistency, ball speed and power while the innovative shock-absorption system delivers a satisfying feel and sound. The deep undercut cavity and heel-toe weighting in the short-irons has increased forgiveness and the expertly beveled sole in every iron reduces turf resistance and promotes crisp contact.
