Titleist's new 712 iron series has come out. Titleist decided not to release a combo set, blending CB long irons with MB short irons. Titleist introduces the new Titleist 712 MB irons featuring improved feel and looks. And the Titleist 712 AP1, AP2, CB and MB irons have been used on the PGA Tour for the first time this week. This is the first step in Titleist's performance validation process while the product is prepared for release later this year.

The Acush­net Com­pany (Titleist, FootJoy) began seed­ing the AP1 712 Ironsat the AT&T National. A total of 19 play­ers put the pro­to­type irons (AP1, AP2, MB, CB) in play. The Titleist brand led the iron count at the AT&T National with a total of 40 sets in play.

Watney's pro­to­type AP2 irons(3-P) were stan­dard length and one degree upright through­out; two degrees weak in the 3, 4, 5, P and one degree weak in the 6, 7, 8, 9. Accord­ing to Acush­net, Wat­ney decided to put the new irons in the bag after prac­tic­ing with them for the first time dur­ing the Wednes­day pro-am round.
