I will admit that I jumped on the 'True Blood' bandwagon late. The first couple episodes I'd seen were of this second season, but I watched them very casually. I became a huge fan during season three and it made me want to go back and discover what I had missed. While season three was less serious and more diverting and action-packed (which was often its major weakness), it cannot touch the dramatic focus of this season. The episodes are slower and less scattered and, therefore, pack much more emotional intensity. The actors always deliver ('True Blood', in my opinion, has the best ensemble cast on television) but in this season they are given more substance to work with. So many of the storylines touched me,Jessica and Hoyt's troubled romance, Sookie and Jason trying to deal with their grief over Gran, Godric trying to make amends for his past, etc. I found myself crying my eyes out during the scene on the roof with Godric, Eric, and Sookie. Unforgettable! The Fellowship of the Sun story was also compelling. It brought attention to the themes of mortality and bigotry and tolerance, themes that transcend religion and speak to everyone. But it was masked behind the war between humans and vampires and made entertaining as well as enlightening. I, like many others, thought the Maryann plot was a little too expanded but it was still pretty fun to watch. Just like The Godfather Part II sequel, True Blood part 2 did not disappoint. It's actually my favorite out the three seasons made so far. This season is full with unpredictable surprises and excitement. There's more action, and more anticipation for the next episode to follow.
