Divan hits the front in George
Divan van den Heever has now gone 31 holes without a bogey and that put him into a one-stroke lead after Friday's second round of the R3.5-million Dimension Data Pro-Am being played at Fancourt.
He carded a five-under-par 67 on the Outeniqua course - the tournament is played over a round each on Outeniqua, Montagu - two par-72 courses - and The Links ahead of the cut and the final round on Montagu - to take a one stroke lead over Oliver Bekker at the halfway point of the tournament.
Despite not dropping a single shot in his second round, the 29-year-old from Pretoria was not entirely happy with things: "I think I played
TaylorMade RocketBallz Fairway Woodswell yesterday," he said, "and today, I hit a couple of wayward shots and I got lucky."
And while Outeniqua delivered the leading score of the first round and seven-under, it seemed to play quite a bit tougher in the second round. "We had a bit of a breeze this afternoon which made it a bit tougher," said Van den Heever, "but I think the guys who played The Links this afternoon must have had it worse.
Except for Jake Redman, that is: The 24-year-old who plays out of Fancourt carded a five-under-par 68 to climb to seven-under for the tournament and a share of fourth behind Van den Heever, Bekker and Warren Abery who was in third at eight-under.
